Free Rhian's Bootie Pattern

I've been asked by some people on Ravelry to post this pattern so here it is.......


These make simple yet adorable little baby booties which are the perfect gift for a newborn!
Rhian’s Bootie Pattern

I usually knit these on 3.25mm needles and they produce a 0-3 month size. If you use Yarn such as Sublime Baby then they do stretch slightly.

The Pattern:

Make 2

Cast on 31 stitches.
Row 1: Knit all stitches.
Row 2: Knit 1, make 1, knit 14, make 1, knit 1, make 1, knit 14, make 1, knit 1. (35 stitches)
Row 3: Knit.
Row 4: Knit 2, make 1, knit 14, make 1, knit 3, make 1, knit 14, make 1, knit 2. (39 stitches)
Row 5: Knit.
Row 6: Knit 3, make 1, knit 14, make 1, knit 5, make 1, knit 14, make 1, knit 3. (43 stitches)
Row 7: Knit.
Row 8: Knit 4, make 1, knit 14, make 1, knit 7, make 1, knit 14, make 1, knit 4. (47 stitches)
Rows 9-17: Knit all stitches (9 rows)
Row 18: Knit 19, K2tog, Knit 5, Sl1, Knit 1, psso, Sl1, yf, turn
Row 19: K2tog, Knit 5, Sl1, Knit 1, psso, Sl1P, yf, Turn
Row 20: K2tog, Knit 5, Sl1, Knit 1, psso, Sl1P, yf, Turn
Row 21: K2tog, Knit 5, Sl1, Knit 1, psso, Sl1P, yf, Turn
Row 22: K2tog, Knit 5, Sl1, Knit 1, psso, Sl1, Turn
Row 23: P2tog, Purl 5, P2tog, Sl1P, Turn
Row 24: K2tog, Knit 5, Sl1, Knit 1, psso, Sl1, Turn
Row 25: P2tog, Purl 5, P2tog, Sl1P, Turn
Row 26: K2tog, Knit 5, Sl1, Knit 1, psso, Knit to end of row (29)
Row 27: Purl
Row 28-31: Knit all stitches (4 rows)
Cast Off

To make up:
Mattress stitch back seam and sole seam.

  2. I'm not getting 35 stitches from the 2nd row. This patten is just like a maryjan and their stitches don't add up either.

  3. SouthernComfortknc, here is a tutorial to 'make 1' which should give you 35 stitches in row 2. You start the pattern with 31 stitches and make an extra 4 during this row giving you 35! Hope this helps!

  5. Can I use any M1 increase for this? Can it be the same on the front (right) and back (wrong) side?

  6. I saw these booties in a local knitting shop made with different sized needles to make different sized booties. They are adorable- especially the newborn size :)
